Maxi Scherer delivers keynote at the London Shipping Law Centre seminar on AI in International Arbitration

Professor Dr. Maxi Scherer delivered the keynote address at the London Shipping Law Centre seminar titled “AI in International Arbitration – Hype or Helpful?”. The seminar was chaired by The Rt. Hon. The Lord Thomas of Cwmgiedd. Additional speakers included Paul Schwartfeger and David Harris of Thomson Reuters, and the closing vote of thanks was delivered by Vasanti Selvaratnam KC.

The event, held at the IDRC in London, examined the evolving role of artificial intelligence in international arbitration, with a particular emphasis on shipping disputes. Discussions focused on the increasing use of AI tools by counsel and arbitrators in everyday practice, the potential gains in efficiency, time, and cost savings, as well as the associated limitations and risks.
