Chiann Bao has been appointed as an international judge at the Bahrain International Commercial Court that will launch on 5 November 2025.
As reported, the Bahrain International Commercial Court, or BICC, owes its existence to a treaty signed by Bahrain and Singapore in March 2024. The court is modelled on the Singapore International Commercial Court and will, uniquely, offer parties a right of appeal to an international committee of the SICC if the case is in English and they choose to exercise it. Alternatively, a BICC appellate tribunal will hear the appeal if the original judgment was in Arabic or the parties so agree.
